Xi Jinping announced inevitable reunification of Taiwan with China

Chinese leader Xi Jinping, speaking at a symposium on the 130th anniversary of the birth of the country’s founder, Mao Zedong, declared the inevitable “reunification” of Taiwan with mainland China, according to Xinhua.

He pledged to resist any attempts to “separate” Taiwan from China.

“The realization of the complete reunification with the motherland is an inevitable course of development, is righteous and what the people want,” said Xi.

He emphasized the need to conscientiously implement the policies of the ruling Communist Party of China regarding the resolution of the Taiwan issue and support for the principle of One China and the 1992 Consensus (when China and Taiwan recognized the unity of China – ed.).

In addition, Xi Jinping stressed the need to cooperate with Taiwan in all areas and called for peaceful relations between the mainland and the island.

At the same time, he once again warned against attempts to declare Taiwan’s independence.

“We will resolutely prevent anyone from seeking to separate Taiwan from China,” emphasized the head of China.

Taiwan-China conflict

Beijing considers the island of Taiwan as a “separatist province” and seeks to regain full control over it. However, Taiwan sees itself as an independent country with a separate economy and democratically elected leaders.

The United States provides military assistance to Taiwan. Against this background, the conflict between Washington and Beijing has escalated.

Recently, Taiwan reported the resumption of Chinese military activity near the island. Nine Chinese aircraft and several ships crossed the middle of the strait, which serves as a conditional border.
