Thiruvananthapuram: A group of students who were evacuated from Ukraine during the conflict with Russia contributed money to support V Muraleedharan, Minister of State for External Affairs, by covering his security deposit for his candidature in the Attingal Lok Sabha constituency.

The students, who were accompanied by their parents, visited Muraleedharan at the BJP’s state office on Friday. The students stated that they had decided to cover Muraleedharan’s security deposit as a gesture of appreciation for their evacuation from Ukraine.

Speaking to news agency ANI, one of the students, Sai Sruthi, said, “I was a student at Zaporizhzhia University in Ukraine. We were there when the Russia-Ukraine war was going on. At that time, we were evacuated due to the efforts of Prime Minister Modi ji and Minister V Muraleedharan.”

She further said, “As a token of gratitude and respect, students and parents collected some money, and we came here today to present this amount as a deposit for his (V. Muraleedharan’s) election.”

Muraleedharan expressed his gratitude to the students for their contribution, acknowledging the parents and students who were evacuated by the Government of India during the period of conflict in Ukraine.

The Minister thanked the students for their contribution and said, “…During the last five years of PM Narendra Modi ji’s government, the most satisfying activity for me personally was the various evacuation operations.”

He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s priority has always been the safety of every Indian across the world and thanked the Prime Minister for his efforts in helping with the evacuations through his connections with global leaders.

After the war broke out between Russia and Ukraine, several Indian nationals were brought back to the country through the Indian government’s initiative called ‘Operation Ganga’. This mission helped with the evacuation of over 17,000 Indians, primarily students, from the war-hit Ukraine.
