In line with PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Tamil Nadu ahead of Lok Sabha elections 2024, TDP National General Secretary Nara Lokesh and CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury campaigned for their respective alliance candidates in Tamil Nadu on Thursday. Expressing confidence in Annamalai, Lokesh emphasised the importance of strong states for building a robust nation and expressed optimism about the NDA’s prospects in both national and state elections.
TDP National General Secretary Nara Lokesh said, “Annamalai is a youngster. It is quite clear that he is committed to people’s views. He has done a padayatra. He understands people’s problems really well and he’s taken a tough seat to now contest. I’m pretty certain that he’s going to win in this election. It’s very clear that, being a youngster he left his IPS job to come and serve the people of Tamil Nadu.”
“I’m sure that the people of Tamil Nadu will reciprocate in the same regard… Andhra Pradesh state elections are a foregone conclusion. I am here in Tamil Nadu to support my friend Annamalai. We exchanged a lot of views and ideas on how to take respective states together,” he said.
Nara Lokesh also expressed confidence in the NDA’s ability to form the government at the national level. “To make a strong nation there should be strong states and together both Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh together can build a strong nation. NDA is going to surely form a government. We are very clear that NDA alone will get 400 plus MP seats As far as the assembly elections are considered, it will be a one-sided election,” he said.
On the other hand, CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury expressed positivity about the ground situation of the I.N.D.I.A. bloc in Tamil Nadu.
CPI(M) leader campaigned in support of Chennai Central DMK candidate Dayanidhi Maran in Purasaiwalkam on Thursday. Talking to ANI, Sitaram Yechury said, “It is extremely positive (ground situation of INDIA alliance in Tamil Nadu). We think that the INDIA grouping, all the parties that are arranged together in this front to save India will repeat in a more emphatic fashion what happened in the last elections…”
