Vidya Malavade says SRK shot ‘Chak De India’ ‘sattar minute’ scene in one take

Vidya Malavade, who worked in ‘Chak De India’ with Shah Rukh Khan, told IndiaToday.in that the superstar delivered the iconic ‘sattar minute’ (70-minute) dialogue in one take. Malavade played Vidya Sharma in the 2007 film. Ahead of her upcoming film, ‘Ruslaan’ release with Aayush Sharma, the actor reflected on her film journey. She also spoke about ‘Chak De India’s’ enduring legacy.

“Chak De India is a film that keeps giving,” said Vidya Malavade, who played Vidya Sharma in SRK’s film in 2007. In an exclusive chat with IndiaToday.in, Vidya said that the film’s dialogues, characters, and inspirational storyline continue to resonate with the audience worldwide. In fact, recently, SRK’s motivating speech to his IPL team KKR went viral after they lost the match against RR. It even drew comparisons with SRK’s ‘sattar minute’ dialogue from the film.

Talking about it, Vidya told IndiaToday.in, “Any coach giving a speech to his team, will bring back the memory of ‘Chak De’, and especially when ‘Coach sir’ (SRK) is doing it, then definitely it will remind you of that moment. Most of those scenes from ‘Chak De’ are still prominent in people’s minds and that particular scene for sure. I still remember when SRK came and shot that scene, he did that in one take, he just nailed it. He is so amazing and well prepared always and that is the magic of SRK.”

Take a look at SRK’s ‘sattar minute’ dialogue from the film:

Vidya Malavade further spoke about the film’s significance in her life. “Chak De is a blessing that doesn’t stop giving. Today, in the age where you have like five to six releases every week on OTT and theatres, you don’t even remember the names or the characters. And here we are, 16 years later, still remembered.”

She continued, “When I go outside, people still stay, ‘Vidya Sharma India, Yeh right dekhegi, left maregi (her iconic moment from the film)’, all of that still happens. Sometimes people ask me if it irritates me? And I’m like, ‘Are you crazy? That is an impact of film and a film that I was a part of.’ I could not have imagined this when I signed the film, when I read the script. We all knew that it was a good script. But it turned into some national treasure. People are still talking about it so many years later, I don’t understand how that happened.”

Vidya also said, “This makes everything so worth it. All the struggles that we have gone through, everybody, everyone who said no to me always. And there have been many no’s. It just tells you to keep going because you never know what will work. When we were shooting that film, not even a single one of us must have thought about ‘iss film ka kya hone wala hain’ (what will happen to this film).”

“We were just there in the moment, playing and saying our lines. In fact, we used to be so tired by the end of the day, because every day when we were not shooting, we were practising which went on for over six-eight months. We were just exhausted. That’s how it’s with me for all the films, I don’t think of what will happen to the film, I just do my job to the best of my ability. Today, when I look back at ‘Chak De’ and see some of the scenes, I am just like ‘What was I thinking, what was I doing, what is wrong with me, how did people like this’. You are always a bit critical about yourself,” said Vidya while talking about her film with SRK.

‘Chak De India’ was directed by Shimit Amin and featured Shah Rukh Khan, Vidya Malavade, Shilpa Shukla, Sagarika Ghatge Khan, and Chitrashi Rawat, and others. The film released in 2007.
