Vidya Balan’s praised Jeo Baby’s ‘Kaathal: The Core’ where Mammootty’s portrayal of a homosexual character left her astonished. She commended Mammootty not only for his impeccable performance but also for his courageous decision to produce a film that challenges societal norms and promotes acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community.

Reflecting on the culture of Kerala, Vidya Balan remarked, “I don’t think any of our Hindi actors will be able to do a film like Kaathal.”

She further said that everyone has to accept the fact that the Kerala audiences are more literate, which makes a big difference.

Even though Vidya Balan acknowledged Ayushmann Khurrana’s remarkable performances in films addressing societal taboos, Vidya Balan noted, “Maybe, it is easier there (in Kerala).” She emphasized the cultural differences between Bollywood and Malayalam cinema, suggesting that the latter provides a more conducive environment for actors to explore unconventional roles without apprehension.

Vidya Balan lauded Mammootty for taking up the character in ‘Kaathal’ without even looking at the fact on whether it would affect his image.
