Motorola Edge 50 Ultra launched with a wooden back, is it coming to India?
Motorola has finally launched its latest Edge 50 Ultra smartphone in Europe. It is also coming to other regions in the coming weeks. The device comes with the revival of a classic design element – the wooden back panel – that we first saw years back on the Motorola X smartphone. It features the new Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 chipset, a 144Hz screen, a 4,500mAh battery with 125W fast charging, a 50-megapixel primary rear camera, and more. Â
While the specs on paper seem good, the question is whether the new Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is coming to India or not. Well, the device is reportedly coming to some parts of Asia as well. While the company hasn’t yet revealed its India launch plans for the Ultra model, there are chances that we could see it coming to India.Â
The company has previously announced several phones in its Edge series in India and the Moto Edge 50 Pro was also recently made available in the country. However, the chances for the Ultra seem a little low because Motorola has hardly sold its Ultra models in this market, so seeing the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra would be a big surprise. But, you never know if the device with a wooden back panel could make it to India as well.Â
Sitting just below the Ultra is the Motorola Edge 50 Pro, which is powered by a mid-range Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, offering a balance of performance and affordability. The Pro version is priced at Rs 31,999. If the Ultra model makes it to the Indian market, then it is expected to be priced under Rs 40,000. In this price range, several popular phones like the OnePlus 12R are using last year’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset to offer users flagship-level performance at an affordable price.Â
The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra packs a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, which Qualcomm recently announced as a toned-down version of the current flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. We would love to test the prowess of the new chip if the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra comes to India. It will also be interesting to see how Motorola will price it and convince users to buy over other popular premium phones. Â
As for specifications, it packs a 6.7-inch OLED display with a refresh rate of up to 144Hz. Moreover, it boasts an IP68 rating for water resistance and supports 50W wireless charging, meeting the standards expected from a flagship device in 2024. It has support for 125W wired charging as well. Under the hood, one will find a 4,500mAh battery unit.
For photography, there is a 50-megapixel main camera at the back with OIS support. It is accompanied by a 64-megapixel telephoto lens with OIS, and a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens that doubles as a macro lens. The device runs on Android 14 OS and its Snapdragon chip is backed by up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage solution.
