‘us at war with russia,’ says kremlin as vladimir putin begins 5th term as president

Moscow: Moments after Russian President Vladimir Putin started his fifth term, the Kremlin has stated that it sees itself at war with the United States. Due to its role in the Ukraine war and its close ties with Kyiv, Moscow has stated that it is automatically at war with Washington DC.

Speaking to reports, Kremlin Spokesperson Dmity Peskov stated – “Given that de-facto the United States is a country deeply involved in the war in Ukraine. This is a country that is, in fact, at war with us”.

The Kremlin also criticised the comments made by the US regarding the outcome of the Russian elections. Following early results, the White House stated that the Russian elections were in no way “free or fair” after Putin’s landslide victory.

“The elections are obviously not free nor fair given how Mr. Putin has imprisoned political opponents and prevented others from running against him,” stated the spokesperson for the National Security Council – John Kirby.

Peskov rubbished the claims made by the US and stated that Russia is not ready to listen to the US’ opinion.

“This is not an opinion that we are ready to listen to and that is even important to us. We strongly disagree with this assessment from the United States,” the Kremlin spokesperson added.

Putin Secures 5th Term As President

While Putin’s re-election was never in doubt, the incumbent President has stated that he would prove through the polls that he had the support of Russians.

As per the counting, Putin received 87.8 percent of the vote, which is the highest to have ever been received by a leader since the Soviet Union. With his fifth term as President, Putin has officially become the longest-serving Russian leader since Joseph Stalin in the Soviet era.
