watch: rcb’s shreyanka patil saves near-certain 6 with superhuman effort vs mi
India and Royal Challengers Bangalore allrounder Shreyanka Patil on Saturday saved a near-certain six with a superhuman effort during her team’s match against the Mumbai Indians. After being asked to chase down a paltry 132, Mumbai got off to a flying start as they scored 60 runs in the powerplay. Yastika Bhatia (31, 15 balls, 4×4, 2×6) and Hayley Matthews (26, 21b, 3×4, 1×6) added 45 runs for the first wicket in just 3.5 overs to give a sound launching pad to Mumbai.
The score could have been 65 in the powerplay had Shreyanka not put in the brilliant effort. In the last delivery of the sixth over, Matthews tried to deposit Sophie Devine over the long-on boundary.
Although the West Indies cricketer didn’t get proper timing, the ball seemed to have enough for it to go for a six. But Shreyanka timed her jump to perfection and bagged the ball.

But on realising that the momentum was taking her over the ropes, the 21-year-old threw the ball inside the field. Shreyanka couldn’t complete the catch, but saved five important runs for her side, although that wasn’t enough.

Bangalore captain Smriti Mandhana didn’t have much to cheer for as her side lost by seven wickets. From the top of the table, they slid down to fourth after consecutive losses.
Amidst disappointment, Mandhana didn’t forget to praise Shreyanka for her piece of athleticism in the outfield. She said that during tough times, such efforts boost the morale of sides.

“It was brilliant. Something positive to take from today. Those sorts of efforts really lift up the team,” Mandhana said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
The Bangalore captain didn’t have a great time with the bat either after she scored just nine runs before Issy Wong, who earlier came in as a replacement for Shabnim Ismail, dismissed her.
RCB play their next game against the UP Warriorz on March 4 in Bengaluru.
