WWE witnesses its first title change of 2024
NEW DELHI: A new champion has emerged in NXT, marking the first title change of 2024 in WWE. The North American Championship landscape underwent a seismic shift as Dragon Lee defended his title against Lexis King, only to face an unexpected challenge from the NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament winner, Oba Femi.
The main event of the evening saw Dragon Lee successfully fend off Lexis King’s challenge, retaining the North American Championship after executing his signature move, Operation Dragon. However, the celebrations were short-lived for the defending champion, as Oba Femi seized the moment to cash in his Breakout Tournament contract.
In a stunning turn of events, Oba Femi and Dragon Lee engaged in a fierce battle for the North American Championship. Despite Lee’s attempt to employ Operation Dragon once again, the Nigerian powerhouse had other plans. Oba Femi countered with a powerful Powerbomb, ultimately securing the victory and capturing the coveted North American Championship for the first time in his WWE career.
This triumph not only marks Oba Femi’s maiden championship win in WWE but also adds another layer of excitement to the NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament, highlighting the impact and opportunities that come with winning such prestigious tournaments within the company.
Interestingly, Oba Femi’s cash-in occurred before Damian Priest had the chance to utilize his Money in the Bank contract. Priest, a member of Judgment Day, has held the coveted briefcase since July of the previous year. Despite several attempts, including a recent effort on RAW last week, Priest has been unable to successfully cash in his contract.
With Oba Femi now holding the North American Championship, attention shifts to the red brand, where next week Seth Rollins is set to defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Jinder Mahal. This development opens the door for Damian Priest, the Archer of Infamy, to potentially cash in his Money in the Bank contract and secure the prestigious championship.
