Heavy rains lashed several parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) early on Tuesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted more rainfall throughout the day.

Light to moderate rain along with thunderstorm is likely to continue over Delhi-NCR, it said. Meanwhile, visuals showed several areas and roads of the national capital soaked in rain.

“Thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds with speed of 30-40 Km/h would occur over and adjoining areas of few places of Delhi ( Narela, Bawana, Alipur, Burari, Kanjhawala, Rohini, Badili), NCR ( Bahadurgarh) Yamunanagar, Modinagar, Gulaoti, Siyana, Sikandrabad, Bulandshahar, Jahangirabad, Shikarpur (U.P.),” the weather department wrote.

The Regional weather department also noted that “light to moderate intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of Farukhnagar, Sohana, Rewari (Haryana) Kithor, Amroha, Moradabad, Garhmukhteshwar, Pilakhua, Hapur, Anupshahar, Bahajoi (UP), Bhiwari (Rajasthan) during the next 2 hours”.

According to the weather department, the minimum temperature in the national capital is likely to settle at 13 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature is likely to settle around 28 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

Delhi, on Monday, witnessed a breezy day with the maximum temperature at 28.2 degrees Celsius, which is four notches above the normal level.

IMD had forecast partly cloudy sky with the possibility of very light rain or drizzle at night and gusty winds earlier on Monday. The air quality in the national capital was recorded in the ‘poor’ category, 227, at 8 pm.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 and 500 ‘severe’.

IMD predicted that intense spell of rainfall or snowfall activity is likely to continue over the Western Himalayan Region till February 21, adding that plains of Northwest India are likely to receive showers during February 19 and 21.

Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh are also likely to receive heavy rainfall or snowfall at isolated pockets of their state.
