Former Indian opening batter, Virender Sehwag had posted an Instagram story congratulating Yashasvi Jaiswal for a stellar century knock against England in the second innings at Rajkot. But the caption on the post had a subtle dig into a certain type of bowler.
Jaiswal had turned up once again to continue having a stellar debut series at home. He amassed 104 runs in 133 deliveries extending India’s lead to 322 runs in the process at stumps on Day 3.
In the second innings, England had used their spinners for 37 overs out of the total 51 that was bowled. Sehwag’s post on his Instagram story read,” Back-to-back centuries for Yashasvi Jaiswal. Treating spinners the way they should be treated.”

Sehwag had a reputation for not considering spinners as a worthy opposition to his fiery brand of batting. More notably Ravichandran Ashwin had spoken on this on the YouTube channel, The Ring Side View, Sehwag said,” I never considered a spinner as a bowler. They are there just to give away runs. There is no element of fear when it comes to them.”
Jaiswal had a similar approach in terms of his innings where he took on the opposition following the dismissal of Rohit Sharma. He carried the partnership mostly while Shubman Gill took the more passive approach only looking to hit as and when necessary. The two went on to put up a partnership of 155 runs.
Following this, Yashasvi Jaiswal had picked up an injury to his back which led to him being retired hurt. Gill, however, took the game forward and went on to score a brilliant half-century and remains unbeaten on 65.
Jaiswal’s injury will be a concern as the side is already missing one key player, Ravichandran Ashwin who has left the squad due to a ‘family medical emergency,’ as per the release by the BCCI.
India however, still managed to come back strong as they went on to bowl out the England batting order for 319 runs and went on to rack up a lead of 322 at stumps on Day 3 of the Test at Rajkot. The hosts will aim to pile on more runs, being wary of the threat of ‘Bazball’ but will also look to take the win and the lead in the ongoing series.
