Malayalam Cinema never had it so good. After the blockbuster status attained by Chidambaram S. Poduval’s Manjummel Boys, it is time for another potential blockbuster from Kerala to hit the pan-India market.

Reputed director Blessy’s The Goat Life (titled in Malayalam as Aadujeevitham) is all set to hit the screen on Thursday, March 26, a day in advance of this week’s Hindi release Crew. Two highly contrasting films, with one all froth and fizz, the other an intense grim true-life story of a man from Kerala who was confined as a slave in Saudi Arabia for three-and-a-half years (4 April 1992 – 13 August 1995) .

Those who have seen The Goat Life vouch for the fact that this is Prithviraj Sukumaran’s finest, most-accomplished performance to date, on a par with Tom Hanks in the other great survival drama Castaway.

Director Blessy lived with this project for 14 years unwilling to compromise on his vision. This is probably the most expensive Malayalam film of all times, destined to be regarded as one of the finest survival dramas ever, just as Manjummel Boys proved to be less than a month ago.

Interestingly, Prithviraj, one of the most celebrated actors of Malayalam cinema is poised for a belated impact in Hindi cinema with The Goat Life. Years ago in 2012, he tried to make a place for himself in Filmistan with Aiyyaa co-starring Rani Mukerji.

The audiences this week have a wide spectrum to cover from the grim to the grin.
