Tornadoes In Nebraska And Iowa Cause Massive Power Outage, Several Omaha Residents Affected

Many residents of Nebraska and Iowa reported power outages after as tornados continued raging through parts of the state Friday.

Both the Howard Greeley Rural Public Power District and Loup Valleys Rural Public Power District have reported extensive damage to power poles and downed power lines across Sherman, Greeley and Howard Counties in central Nebraska.

They said Linemen were actively working on Friday afternoon to restore power to those affected.

Footage from @JordanHallWX showed catastrophic damages in Minden, Iowa. The tornado swept through the southeastern side of the area, leaving devastation in its wake.

Several flights were delayed from Omaha’s Eppley Airfield Airport, the official X account of the airport said in a post on X. It asked passengers to contact their respective airlines to seek update about revised flight timings for Friday. The flight delays have been caused by the tornados damaging the airport’s terminal, the airport said. It added that while a tornado hit the airport premises, the passengers were moved to a safe shelter, but were brought back to the airport once it subsided.

Omaha Police lieutenant Neal Bonacci said that hundreds of houses sustained damage in Omaha, mostly in the Elkhorn area in the western part of the city. He said police and firefighters and visiting door-to-door asking if any help is needed.

“We are getting 911 calls of people in debris in their basement. We are just working as quick as we can to help everyone who needs it,” he said, adding that only minor injuries have been reported, so far, and there has been no damage to businesses in Omaha.
