The trailer for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is out and it promises an epic saga of love and power set in pre-independent India. The Netflix series stars Manisha Koirala and Sonakshi Sinha. Recently, the show also unveiled the male cast of the series led Fardeen Khan. Shekhar Suman, Adhyayan Suman and Taha Shah Badussha were shown to be playing pivotal roles as well.

On Instagram, Netflix India unveiled the eagerly-awaited trailer with the caption, “In the glittering, regal halls of Shahi Mahal, romance and revolution clash in silence. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s sweeping saga of love, loss and liberation – Heeramandi: The Diamond bazaar.”

The filmmaker’s Khamoshi heroine Manisha Koirala leads the series as Mallikajaan, while Dabanng star Sonakshi Sinha plays Fareedan. Other cast members include Aditi Rao Hydari as Bibbojaan, Richa Chadha as Lajjo, Sanjeeda Shaikh as Waheeda and Sharmin Segal as Alamzeb, Mallikajaan’s youngest daughter.

In the district of Heeramandi, Mallikajaan (Koirala) rules supreme until she is challenged by the daughter of her late nemesis played by Sinha. Meanwhile, Mallikajaan’s older daughter Bibbo (Hydari) joins the revolutionaries in the fight for India’s freedom as the younger sister Alamzeb (Sharmin Segal) wants to leave Heeramandi after falling in love with a nawab’s son Tajdar (Taha Shah Badussha).

Bhansali co-directs Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar with Mitakshara Kumar. Bhansali and Kumar are also writers on the show along with Vibhu Puri, Snehil Dixit Mehra, Moin Baig and Divy Nidhi Sharma. In a statement, the filmmaker said about his upcoming show, “This is a story of love, power, freedom, and extraordinary women, their desires, and struggles. It marks a new milestone in my journey.
