‘paida toh bahut kar liye..’: nitish kumar’s salvo at lalu over dynastic politics

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar took aim at Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav on Saturday, accusing him of perpetuating dynastic politics by promoting his family members.

Speaking at a rally in Katihar, the JD(U) leader highlighted Lalu Prasad’s move to appoint his wife as Bihar chief minister after his own resignation. “Nowadays, (promoting) his children,” Nitish remarked.

Posing a rhetorical question, Nitish questioned the prolific expansion of Lalu Prasad’s family, stating, “Paida toh bahut kar diye…Itna jyada paida karna chahiye kisi ko, baal-bachcha? (Produced too many…Should anyone produce so many children).”

Nitish went on to criticise the extensive involvement of Lalu Prasad’s daughters, two sons, and others in political affairs, recalling past inadequacies in governance. He emphasised the lack of progress in infrastructure, education, and development during Lalu Prasad’s tenure.

“Now they have involved their daughters, two sons, and everyone. They keep saying something or other everywhere. People forget the old things, hence, I want to tell everyone that no work used to get done. People could not get out, there were no roads or education,” the chief minister said.

Lalu Prasad’s daughters, Misa Bharti and Rohini Acharya, are currently contesting in the parliamentary elections, with RJD fielding Misa Bharti from Pataliputra and Rohini Acharya from Saran Lok Sabha seat. Lalu Prasad’s younger son, Tejashwi Yadav, served as the deputy chief minister in the previous Nitish-led government, while his elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, held the environment portfolio.

Tejashwi Yadav has emerged as a significant challenger to Nitish Kumar, who has maintained power in Bihar for nearly 19 years.
