Recently, Tata’s owned Air India unveiled its first Airbus A350 aircraft (VT-JRA) at Wings India 2024. Air India will have six such aircraft by this May. These aircraft will begin commercial service with AI with domestic flights on January 22, 2024, and gradually switch to international routes as per the standard procedures set by the aviation authorities.
During the inauguration, AI CEO & MD Campbell Wilson termed the A350 as a “game-changer” for Air India. The aircraft is set to enhance passenger experience and explore long global routes.

The A350-900 is equipped with powerful and fuel-efficient Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, which offers an impressive range of up to 9,700 nautical miles. This capability enables flights nonstop long travel distances like India to North America and Australia and provides unprecedented convenience and efficiency for both the company and passengers.

Air India’s A350-900 Cabin Configuration
Air India’s A350-900 has an exclusive three-class cabin configuration. The business class, featuring 28 “private suites” in a 1-2-1 layout, provides a luxurious and private in-flight experience. With direct aisle access, sliding privacy doors, and full-sized bed conversion at the touch of a button, the business class offers unparalleled comfort.
Premium economy seats, in a 2-4-2 configuration, provide extra legroom, adjustable headrests, and 13.3-inch HD touchscreens for a premium travel experience.
The economy class, with a 3-4-3 seating arrangement, ensures a comfortable journey with 31 inches of seat pitch and 12-inch HD touchscreens.

Tata’s Air India A350 Routes And Future Plans
Air India’s A350-900 is scheduled to commence commercial service on January 22, 2024, with initial domestic operations for crew familiarisation on routes connecting Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. The aircraft will subsequently be deployed on international routes.
Last year, Air India ordered 250 new aircraft from Airbus, including 20, A350-1000 models.
