The Honeymooners star Joyce Randolph passed away at 99
Joyce Randolph, well remembered for her role as the spunky and vivacious Trixie Norton in the iconic sitcom The Honeymooners, passed away peacefully at the age of 99 in Manhattan. The last surviving main character of the all-time legendary Golden Age TV sitcom left a vacuum not just in the entertainment world, but in the hearts of generations who found delight in her humor and kindness. Joyce Randolph’s son verified the news to CBS on January 14.
Randolph married businessman Richard Lincoln Charles in 1955, and he died in 1997 at 74. Since then, the actress has been living with her only child.
According to a 2007 New York Times story, Randolph (née Sirola) was born in Detroit to a Finnish-American family.
According to The New York Times, She came to New York City in 1943 and worked in Broadway performances, advertisements, and television shows such as Buck Rogers and The Clock in 1950.
Gleason fell in love with Randolph after seeing her in a Clorets gum advertisement in 1951. He featured her in his variety program, Cavalcade of Stars, and later cast her as Trixie in The Honeymooners.
Longtime admirer Matthew Broderick told The New York Times about the comedy, saying that “every situation human beings can have is in one of these shows. From these four characters springs everything,” he went on to say.
Broderick, who met Randolph before the newspaper’s 2007 story, said of the late actress, “You would think Trixie Norton would be some kind of battle-axe in person, but Joyce is so elegant, thin, and pretty.”
Randolph later appeared as Trixie on Hi Honey I’m Home, a metaseries that frequently featured renowned sitcom alumni, in 1991, according to IMDb.
She also starred in one episode of the early medical drama The Doctors and the Nurses in 1964, and she played an anonymous dog walker in the 2000 film Everything’s Jake.
