trump called himself ‘alexei navalny’ of us? ex-president slammed for comparing putin-critic death to legal woes
Criticism came Donald Trump’s way after he likened the New York Civil Fraud penalty to the death of staunch Vladimir Putin critic Alexei Navalny. The former US President, who was appearing at the Fox News Townhall on Tuesday, finally also broke his silence on the Russian lawyer’s mysterious demise.
Trump shared a cordial relationship with the Russian leader during his presidency. While offering a tribute to Navalny from Greenville, the Republican front-runner remarked that Putin’s critic was a “very brave guy,” who “should not have returned to Russia.”
Following this, Trump returned to, what had been described as, making it about himself, by drawing comparisons in the New York court ruling him to pay $355 million for Navalny’s death. Several people on social media including prominent journalists slammed the Republican tycoon for comparing “apples,” with “oranges.”
While speaking about his legal woes Trump remarked, “It’s happening in our country too. We are turning into a Communist country in many ways. And if you look at it, I’m the leading candidate, I got indicted. … I got indicted four times. I have eight or nine trials … all because of the facts that I’m in politics.”
In the later part of the interview, he referred to the $355 million civil fraud judgment as “a form of Navalny, it is a form of communism or fascism.”
Like several users on social media called out the ex-President, incumbent Joe Biden also criticized his predecessor’s silence on Putin’s culpability in the case of Navalny last week.
