Samsung unveils Galaxy M55 with OneUI 6.1, promises of 4 years of OS updates
Samsung has added a new member to the Galaxy M series of smartphones with the launch of the Galaxy M55 in Brazil. The latest mid-tier is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, and the device comes with a best-in-class 50 MP selfie camera, tucked inside the punch-hole display.
The Samsung Galaxy M55 includes a large 6.7-inch 120Hz refresh rate display with FHD+ resolution. The display can reach up to 1,000 nits of peak brightness, and there is also an optical in-display fingerprint sensor. Powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, the device offers up to 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage with support for memory expansion of up to 1 TB.
While it does resemble the Galaxy A55 (review), the Galaxy M55 has a plastic frame and a plastic back panel.
The phone features three cameras at the back, including a 50 MP primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2 MP depth sensor. The main camera can shoot up to 4K resolution videos, while the selfie camera and the ultra-wide-angle lens are limited to 1080p. Camera features on the Galaxy M55 include Nightography and an object eraser.
A 5,000 mAh battery powers the device with support for 45W fast charging, making it the fastest-charging Galaxy M series smartphone. Despite its large battery, the device weighs just 180 grams, which makes it lighter than the recently announced Galaxy A55. Out-of-the-box, the phone ships with Android 14-based OneUI 6.1. However, unlike the flagship models, the device does not offer any generative AI-backed features. The Galaxy M55 will receive four years of software updates and five years of security updates.
The Samsung Galaxy M55 with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage is priced at BRL 2,699 or approximately Rs 45,086 and is available in light green and dark blue colours. The device is already listed on Samsung India’s official website and is expected to launch in the next few weeks, possibly with a much lower price tag.
