David Warner gifts his ‘Player of the series’ award to a young fan on his last match on Australian soil
David Warner never fails to impress cricket fans with his heart-warming gestures. In the recently concluded T20I series between Australia and West Indies, Warner won the Player of the series award for his consistent performances throughout the 3 matches.
In a kind act, the veteran opener gifted his coveted award to a young fan who was cheering for him in the stands.
Warner seemed to have continued his gifting gestures to the young fans. Earlier, during his farewell Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground on February 6, Warner walked off the field to a standing ovation.
While leaving the ground, Warner gave away his gloves and helmet to a young fan in the crowd. As Warner played his last international match for Australia in Australia, he gifted his “Player of the series award’ to a fan in the stands. The veteran player has already retired from Tests and ODI cricket for Australia and played his last home international match at Perth on February 13, Tuesday.
AUS VS WI 3RD T20I: MATCH REPORT
Warner signed off from his home arena for the last time with a scintillating knock of 81 runs from just 49 deliveries. Australia were on the verge of making a clean sweep in the T20I series against West Indies. However, Andre Russell with his 71-run knock, along with Sherfane Rutherford, who scored 67 runs, went on to post a 220-run target.
Despite Warner’s valiant effort, Australia fell short by 37 runs. The hosts had already won the series 2-1. Warner confirmed that the 3rd T20I match was his final game on home soil. However, he will be travelling for the T20I series against New Zealand. The T20 World Cup that begins from June 1 is expected to be his swansong in international cricket.
“It was good to have a break and play the franchise stuff. I’ve got a lot of time off after the New Zealand series, go to the IPL before we embark on a World Cup in the Caribbean. Was quite surprised by an opening bowler at 145kph and swings it not trying to get me out. Going to the Caribbean, the boundaries aren’t too big there. I’m well and truly done, it’s time for the youngsters to come through and show their talent,” Warner said after winning the Player of the Series award.
