New Delhi: Heatwave has been troubling people across many states in the country for weeks now. However, the India Met Department (IMD) has said that parts of eastern and southern India as thunderstorms with gusty winds is likely over the regions till May 10, as per the weather office.

According to the IMD, gangetic West Bengal is likely to get isolated heavy rainfall (64.5-115.5 mm) along with squalls (speeding 50-60 kmph) on May 6 and May 7. Assam and Meghalaya is also likely to get isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on Monday.

Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are also likely to received thunderstorm along with rainfall on Monday and Tuesday.

Since last month, there has been a severe heatwave taking the mercury over 40 degrees Celsius in these two regions. Kolkata saw its hottest temperature in fifty years on the final day of April, with a reading of 43 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, a new heatwave spell is predicted to cross western India during the next five days, affecting Gujarat, Rajasthan, and western Madhya Pradesh, while the East and South part are predicted to get some relief from the heatwave.

In the Northeastregion, rainfall and thunderstorms are likely to continue till Tuesday. It has been raining heavily in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills region of Meghalaya since Sunday damaging several houses and affecting over 400 people. The weatherman said the rain are likely to continue for the next 48 hours.
