prabhas-starrer kalki 2898 ad release date postponed? what we know

The film is directed by Nag Ashwin.

Rebel star Prabhas has broken his dry spell at the box office post Baahubali with the smash hit Salaar: Part 1-Ceasefire. After a spate of flops, fans are elated to see their favourite star back in form. Prabhas is expected to continue the winning streak with the large-scale production Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin. This epic science fiction action thriller with mythological elements is reportedly being made at a budget of Rs 600 crore, thus making it the most expensive Indian film ever made. The film faced some delays during the production process. May 9 was locked as its date of release. However, from the looks of it, fans will have to wait for a few months more to catch this magnum opus on the big screen. According to latest reports, Kalki 2898 AD has been postponed from its original May 9 release date. The post production works have recently been taking longer than expected and hence the film’s release may be delayed.

There is talk that the producers are talking to the distributors to decide the release date of the film and if all goes well then the film can hit the theatres in the last week of July or third week of August. An official confirmation on the postponement is still awaited.

Kalki 2898 has an ensemble cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani. The film is centred around the arrival of Kalki, the tenth avatar of Lord Vishnu, who is prophesied to end the ongoing Kaliyuga. At the Synapse 2024 event in Gurugram, Nag Ashwin revealed that the timeline of the film will start from the age of the Mahabharata and span 6000 years to 2898 AD when the last avatar of Lord Vishnu is prophesied to arrive. He also said that the team tried to make the film as different in look as possible from Blade Runner, which was also set several centuries in the future.
