Simferopol: A major storm struck Crimean pensisula on Sunday, leaving around half a million of its population without electricity. The Greek meteorologists have called the powerful storm “Bettina,” whose ripple effects were felt until Ukraine and Russia.

The power outrage has left the residents of major cities in Crimea under darkness, reported BNN Network. Due to the bad weather conditions, the power grid got damaged, the regional head’s energy advisor confirmed to the BNN.

The city of Sevastopol, as well as the districts of Sak, Krasnogvardeysky, and Krasnoperekopsky, have all been impacted by the power outage, as per the reports.

According to preliminary reports, nobody has been hurt, but many people living on the peninsula have been negatively impacted by the loss of energy. Meanwhile, the videos of the storm affecting the residents have been widely circulating on the internet.

The authorities have begun restoration work to restore the electricity supply. To reduce the impact of the storm Bettina, the authorities in Crimea are assessing the damage. The agencies are trying to coordinate the actions of various services and accelerate the restoration of the power supply to reduce the burden on residents, the BNN’s report further informed.

Reportedly, the Ukrainian officials said that due to a powerful storm in the region, the Russian coastal defense lines had been destroyed in the process. The BNN’s report further added that the Crimea’s government has decided to declare November 27 as a holiday.

The authorities have directed for a day off due to the severe weather conditions. The storm has impacted Crimea’s neighbours namely Ukraine and Russia.
