political potluck: modi’s ‘fish-mutton’ jibe meets mamata’s ‘gaumutra-gobar’ gambit

Kolkata: A political potluck with Tejashwi Yadav’s fish-eating video, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mutton remark and Mamata Banerjee’s “gaumutra” comeback added some spice to the already sizzling election rhetoric as political parties and leaders took on each other, bringing their best foot forward to woo voters ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha polls.

Every action, every utterance is amplified, dissected, and thrust into the spotlight and as while heatwave is yet to approach, election fever is making India sizzle with fiery remarks keeping the mercury high. Amidst the whirlwind of campaign rhetoric and fervent debates, one incident emerges as a beacon of controversy: Tejashwi Yadav relishing fish in a helicopter as India celebrates Navratri.

Amid the ongoing political campaign which coincides with ongoing Navratri, Tejashwi Yadav’s video relishing fish in a helicopter went viral on social media, becoming a major talking point at election rallies.

While Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed ‘Mughal’ mindset of INDIA bloc leaders, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee clapped back with “gaumutra-gobar” jibe, adding to the ongoing gastronomical affair.

‘BJP Will Ask You To Drink Gaumutra, Eat Gobar’

On Monday, the West Bengal CM attacked the ruling BJP and said the party will dictate people’s eating and sleeping habits, highlighting what she perceives as a threat to freedom of individuals.

“If you want to protect the country’s independence, then remove the BJP (from power). Only then will the country remain independent. If this party wins the upcoming elections, there will be no elections in the country in the future. This is an autocratic government. They want one leader, one nation, one ‘bhashan’, one ‘bhojan’ in the country,” the Trinamool supremo claimed.

“They (BJP) will decide what you will eat. They will ask you to drink ‘gaumutra’ (cow urine) with morning tea and eat ‘gobar’ (cow dung) for lunch. They aim to control every aspect of your life, from what you eat to how you sleep,” she said.

‘Cooking Mutton In Sawan To Tease People’

Earlier on Friday, PM Modi attacked the ‘Mughal’ mindset of INDIA bloc leaders Rahul Gandhi, Lalu Yadav and his son Tejashwi Yadav for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus and teasing them by cooking mutton during Sawan and eating fish during Navratri.

Addressing an election rally in Udhampur, Prime Minister Modi said, “The people of Congress and INDI alliance do not care about the sentiments of the majority of the people of the country. They enjoy playing with the sentiments of the people. A person who has been sentenced by the court and who is on bail, they visit the house of such a criminal and enjoys cooking mutton in the month of Sawan and they make a video of it to tease the people of the country.”

The PM further said that it is the right of an individual to eat vegetarian or non-vegetarian, however, the intentions of the Opposition leaders are questionable.

“The law does not stop anyone from eating anything, and Modi will also not stop anyone but the intentions of these people are something else. When the Mughals attacked here, they were not satisfied until they demolished the temples. So just like the Mughals, they want to tease the people of the country by showing the video in the month of Sawan,” he said.

Referring to Tejashwi Yadav’s video, PM Modi said, “You are eating non-veg in Navratra, with which intentions are you showing the video? You are hurting the intentions of the people. And I know that after these remarks, they will come after me. But when lines are crossed, then it is my role to speak the truth in front of the people.”

In this high-stakes game of political poker, the battle for power rages on with each side seeking to outmaneuver the other in the quest for supremacy. The Lok Sabha elections will be held in 7 phases, starting April 19 and ending on 1 June
