PhD for ‘professor’ Bumrah: Ian Bishop heaps praise on MI pacer after PBKS heroics

Former West Indies cricketer  Ian Bishop said he would give a fast-bowling PHD to Jaspirt Bumrah, after his sensational spell in MI’s thrilling victory over PBKS in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, on April 18 in Mullanpur. In the midst of a lacklustre overall bowling performance from MI’s bowling unit, Bumrah’s 3/21 spell became crucial in his side securing a nail-biting victory on Thursday by 9 runs. Bishop believes that Bumrah has the knowledge and expertise of the game, suitable enough to host fast-bowling lectures for young and aspiring cricketers across India even before his retirement from cricket.Â

Despite some sensational batting from Suryakumar Yadav with his 78, alongside some equally impressive cameos from the likes of Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma, MI came within inches’ distance of losing the match to PBKS, due to their bowling mishaps. If it was not due to Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee’s clinical bowling in the death overs, some inspirational batting from PBKS’ Ashutosh Sharma and Shashank Singh, almost snatched away MI’s much-needed third victory of IPL 2024.

After the thrilling encounter, Bishop took to his X account to show his praise for Bumrah.Â

“If I could anoint Jasprit Bumrah with a fast bowling PHD, I would. He is a terrific communicator, Knowledgable & articulate. I’d then have him hold bowling lectures to young for aspiring seam bowlers across the country at all levels. I wouldn’t wait until he retired. #prefessor” Bishops post read.Â

HOW BUMRAH CHANGED THE GAME

Bumrah’s heroic performance became ever-more pivotal for his side after he picked the wicket of an in-form Shashank Singh in the 13th over, followed by him giving away only 3 runs from the 17th over of the run-chase. With this spell, Bumrah now grabs hold of the purple cap of IPL 2024, boasting 13 wickets in his 7 matches.
