Paris: un rassemblement en soutien aux victimes de "l'agent orange", avant le procès en appel

Plusieurs centaines de personnes étaient présentes ce samedi place de la République en soutien à la cause de Tran To Nga, militante franco-vietnamienne qui tente de faire condamner les entreprises qui ont produit l'”agent orange”, utilisé par l’armée pendant la guerre du Vietnam. Elle doit être auditionnée mardi devant la cour d’appel de Paris.

Plusieurs centaines de personnes se sont rassemblées en soutien à Tran To Nga à Paris samedi, trois jours avant le procès en appel intenté par cette Franco-Vietnamienne de 82 ans contre 14 groupes agrochimiques ayant conçu ou commercialisé l'”agent orange” utilisé durant la guerre du Vietnam, a constaté un journaliste de l’AFP.

En 2021, le tribunal d’Evry (Essonne) avait débouté de sa demande l’octogénaire, qui accuse ces entreprises, dont le géant Bayer-Monsanto, d’avoir fourni à l’armée américaine l’herbicide toxique utilisé comme arme de guerre pendant le conflit (1955-1975).

“Je suis très touchée de votre présence, je me sens plus forte”, a remercié Tran To Nga devant les manifestants, à République.

“Écocide”

Des militants d’Extinction Rebellion avaient pour l’occasion drapé l’emblématique statue de cette place de banderoles oranges marquées des slogans “Agent orange écocide” et “Stop chemical warfare” (“Stop aux armes chimiques”).

Des députés de gauche, notamment Sandrine Rousseau (EELV), Mathilde Panot et Eric Coquerel (LFI), sont venus apporter leur soutien à Tran To Nga. “C’est un combat essentiel, le déversement de milliers de tonnes d”agent orange” lors de la guerre du Vietnam affecte encore la santé de milliers de personnes”, a expliqué à l’AFP la parlementaire écologiste.

“Nous allons aller jusqu’au bout” mais “peut-être que ce sera à vous de continuer le combat”, a lancé aux manifestants Tran To Nga, qui souffre de tuberculoses à répétition, de plusieurs cancers et d’un diabète de type II.

Un avion avec “un nuage blanc derrière lui”

Née en 1942 en Indochine française, elle avait été exposée à 24 ans à l'”agent orange” – qui tient son nom de la couleur du bandeau peint sur les barils contenant ce défoliant – déversé par l’armée américaine.

“L’avion est passé avec un nuage blanc derrière lui. Ça tombe très rapidement, et c’est comme ça que je me suis retrouvée enveloppée d’un liquide gluant, et tout de suite j’ai commencer à tousser, à m’étouffer”, s’était-elle rappelée lors d’une conférence de presse.

En 2021, le tribunal d’Evry avait estimé que les sociétés avaient “agi sur ordre et pour le compte de l’Etat américain” et qu’elles pouvaient de ce fait se prévaloir de “l’immunité de juridiction”. Un principe du droit international qui établit qu’aucun Etat souverain ne peut assujettir un autre Etat souverain à sa juridiction.

Pour Me William Bourdon, avocat de Tran To Nga, les compagnies américaines tentent “de faire croire que ces industries d’armement auraient agi sous la contrainte, sans marge de manœuvre, sans liberté”.
