Happy Mondays rockstar Shaun Ryder has revealed he's ditched his wild partying and drug use in favour of staying home and switching on Coronation Street.

Shaun, 61, has recalled his previous addictions before making the decision to become addicted to 'cycling and Coronations Street' instead.

The star shot to fame in the late 80s as the lead singer of Manchester rock band Happy Mondays known for songs Step On and Kinky Afro.

Shaun is also responsible for Gorillaz's only number one single - their 2005 collaboration Dare.

In recent years, Shaun has been a reality television mainstay appearing on the likes of Mastermind and Gogglebox and even finishing I'm A Celebrity... in second place.

But before that came a life of no-holds-barred partying which Shaun, who has been sober for two decades, remembers vividly.

He told The Sun: 'I've had a few mad moments. I was sat in Dave Gahan's house [in Los Angeles]. We'd been out partying all night and we go back to his gaff - don't forget, this is 30 years ago - and Dave pulls out this massive big pot of coke and heroin.

'There was all sorts there. It was the early hours and he said, 'I'm going out. I'll be back in a bit. By this time it's only me sat in his house. He's gone for a few hours. I'm getting well acquainted with his drugs. Then I turned the telly on — there's Dave on Sunset Boulevard being chased by police.

Recalling an excursion in Brazil, Shaun said: 'I only know this as I was told about it. Apparently there was a funeral there and I got in a coffin, but I don't remember that. They say that I jumped into it, lay down and started snorting coke. I don't remember that.'

Shaun admitted he was addicted to crack cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine but is now only addicted to 'cycling and Coronation Street'.

Amazingly, Shaun also said he has had little to no relapses since he quit his drug habit.

He is kept busy by his wife Joanne and their daughters Lulu, 15, and Pearl, 16, who have autism and ADHD.

Shaun, who has ADHD himself, has a further four children with three more women - and most of them have ADHD, too.

Again speaking to The Sun, Shaun revealed in 2023: 'I have six kids and five of them have it. That's why I'm always working, because I've got to pay for their f***ing therapy.'
