At least 10 people went missing on Tuesday after a boat capsized in Jhelum river in Srinagar’s Gandbal area. A rescue operation has been launched and the State Disaster Response Force team has been deployed.
Incessant rains over the last couple of days have led to an increase in the water levels of several water bodies, including Jhelum.
According to a report in Greater Kashmir, heavy rains coupled with defunct drainage system caused waterlogging of major roads in the summer capital on Monday.
Commuters were quoted as saying that as the dug-up roads dotted with massive potholes were covered with rainwater, it became difficult for them to navigate through the city.
The report stated that scores of commuters had narrow escapes after passing through massive potholes and dug-up roads.
Residents were quoted as saying that most of the roads in Downtown areas, including Khanyar, Babademb, Nowhatta were waterlogged. They said that the situation is also the same in uptown areas, including Bemina and Batamaloo.
