New iPad Pro and MacBook Air M3 to see soft launch, Apple unlikely to host Spring Event

Apple is gearing up to launch several new products in Spring this year. From the new iPad Pro to M3 chip and MacBooks, the tech giant has a lot in store for users across the globe. However, as per new reports, these products might see a soft launch as Apple is reportedly planning on cancelling its annual Spring event. This, however, isn’t unusual as Apple often launches products without hosting a mega launch event. Moreover, the Spring event by Apple didn’t see the light of the day last year as well.Â

Apple skips hosting Spring event

Bloomberg’s Mark Gunnman reports that Apple has an array of products slated to launch this year. However, the company won’t host a Spring event to showcase the products. Instead, the products will have a soft launch.Â

Talking about the products that Apple is set to launch, the Cupertino-based tech giant is expected to launch a revamped iPad Pro with an OLED screen and an M3 chip, as well as updates to the iPad Air. Rumours also suggest a new Apple Pencil with interchangeable tips and a Find My feature, along with a redesigned Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro.

There are also speculations about the release of M3 chip-equipped 13- and 15-inch MacBook Airs this spring, focusing on more powerful chips rather than major design changes.

Meanwhile, the next significant Apple event is likely to be the World Wide Developer Conference in June, where the company is expected to showcase its efforts in generative AI and unveil updates for its operating systems, particularly iOS 18, which is rumored to be a substantial overhaul for the iPhone.

Apple Watch Ultra with MicroLED cancelled

Recently, it was reported that Apple has scrapped the Apple Watch Ultra with MicroLED display. This led to several Apple employees losing their jobs who were working on the project. Reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared the news on X, and noted that the tech giant no longer feels that the MicroLED display will add any value to the product.Â

In a post on X, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo wrote that as per her recent survey, Apple has opted to cancel its MicroLED display project for the Apple Watch, citing the belief that the technology’s addition may not bring significant value to the product. The decision is also influenced by the high production costs, rendering it economically unviable. As a result, Apple has laid off many employees within its Micro LED development team. Kuo also noted that as of now, there was “no clarity” about Apple’s MicroLED projects.Â

The post also added that Osram, previously serving as Apple’s exclusive supplier for MicroLED chips, was no longer engaged in collaboration with Apple on this technology. The cancellation of the Micro LED project suggests that Apple presently has no immediate plans to mass-produce Micro LED devices in the foreseeable future.
