Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang feels AI robots could be common in future, predicts they will change industries
The idea of humanoids (robots resembling human beings in appearance) being a part of our lives has been widely explored in popular fiction for a long time. Starting with the 90s cartoon The Jetsons to the PlayStation game titled Detroit: Becoming Human, robots existing with humans is a concept that interests people of almost all age groups. With the popularity of AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot, a lot of speculations regarding the technology’s future have surfaced in the last year. While some experts feel that AI will replace humanity in future, others are rather excited about the possibility of AI becoming a part of human lives. And Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang feels that AI robots will be common in the near future.Â
At the CadenceLIVE Silicon Valley 2024 event, Huang made waves with his bold prediction regarding the future of humanoid robots. The Nvidia CEO said that in future, there would be a surge in popularity for humanoid robots, bringing a paradigm shift in industries and everyday life alike. According to a report in Android Headlines, Huang elaborated on his vision during a candid interview at the event. He talked about the transformative impact of AI-driven robots on industries, redefining conventional workflows and operations. Moreover, he expressed confidence in the widespread adoption of humanoid robots beyond industrial settings, envisioning their integration into everyday households.
He also said that humanoid robots will become more accessible in the future as well and could have prices similar to budget vehicles. During the event, the Nvidia CEO added that in future, one could get a humanoid robot in the range of USD 10,000 to USD 20,000, which is the price at which you can get a car these days.Â
Huang has previously been in the limelight for being a strong supporter of AI technology and believing that it will be of great help to humans. Nvidia has also been involved in the advancement of robotics. At its annual conference, GTC, earlier this year, Nvidia unveiled new hardware and software tailored for the growing robotics sector. This technology aims to empower robot developers to create a variety of robots, including humanoid ones.Â
During an interview with CNBC in March, Huang had explained why his company was involved in making humanoids.
According to Huang, humanoid robotics could revolutionise manufacturing. He talked about the abundance of human movement data available for training AI systems, suggesting it as a key resource for enhancing robot productivity.
Huang illustrated this by highlighting how manufacturing processes were originally designed for human workers. By leveraging human data, robots can optimise their performance in these tasks, potentially leading to fully robotic manufacturing lines in the future.
Touching upon Nvidia’s partnerships across various industries, Huang also talked about their role as a market innovator, rather than just a competitor. He added that Nvidia’s technologies have the potential to drive job creation and enhance productivity for businesses, ultimately leading to economic growth.
