As per a Washington Times report, speaking at an Intelligence and National Security Alliance event, Herrera outlined the catastrophic scenario where a sudden development in quantum technology, termed a “black swan event,” could have severe implications for US national security. “If this black swan event happens, then we’re really screwed,” he said, highlighting the dire consequences of such a technological leap.

The implications of a quantum advancement are vast, with potential risks to the world economy, particularly the US market, as it relies heavily on encryption systems for securing financial transactions.
