India will begin their campaign for the T20 World Cup 2024 from June 5, as they aim to win their first win their first ICC trophy in the last 11 years. The one spot that is up for grabs is the spot for the wicketkeeper batter. A lot of players have performed exceptionally well in the ongoing IPL 2024 to stake claim for that spot. Sanju Samson has scored heaps of runs, and even Dinesh Karthik has been magnificent for RCB, especially as a finisher. However, it is now reportedly all but certain that Rishabh Pant will travel with the India squad for the T20 World Cup 2024.

According to a report by PTI, Rishabh Pant is one of the 10 players who are certain to make it to the T20 World Cup 2024 squad. In fact, he is the only wicketkeeper-batter who is among these 10 players. Hence, it can be more or less confirmed that Pant will act as the first choice for the role. The report states that the 10 players who are certain to make it to the squad are Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya.

The report states that ther can be some competition for the spot for the second wicketkeeper-batter in the squad. The four names who are in the running are Sanju Samson, Jitesh Sharma, Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul. Dinesh Karthik, despite his explosive form in the IPL 2024, is not in the reckoning to be selected for th mega tournament in the West Indies and USA.

Shubman Gill Vs Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh Vs Shivam Dube:

There have been reports that Virat Kohli, will in all likelihood open the batting in the T20 World Cup 2024 with Rohit Sharma. In that case, the PTI report states, that one of either Shubman Gill or Yashasvi Jaiswal might make it into the squad. However, if both manage to get into the squad, it will be one of wither Rinku Singh or Shivam Dube who would be in the squad.

No Debutants Likely In T20 World Cup Squad

A huge crop of uncapped Indian players have been performing exceptionally in the T20 World Cup. Riyan Parag is econd in the orange cap charts, while Abhishek Sharma has made waves with his all-out attack opening the innings for RCB. Mayank Yadav has impressed with his pace, while Harshit Rana has been consistent in taking wickets for KKR.

However, the PTI report states that in spite of some brilliant performances, none of them would be considered for the T20 World Cup right now as they would be eased into the side by playing them in some bilateral series first.
