Noida’s Wardha Khan bags AIR 18, makes family proud as first girl to crack UPSC

Wardha Khan, hailing from Noida, Uttar Pradesh, has achieved a remarkable feat by securing the AIR 18  in the UPSC Civil Services Examination of 2023. Originally from Prayagraj, Wardha’s educational journey began in her hometown. However, following the unfortunate demise of her father in 2015, Wardha, alongside her mother Afsar Jahan, relocated to Noida. Afsar Jahan, an educator at Afsar Jahan Kendriya Vidyalaya, played a significant role in Wardha’s upbringing and academic pursuits.

Wardha’s educational journey began in Prayagraj, where she laid her academic foundation. Following her father’s passing, she moved to Noida, settling in Vivek Vihar Society, Sector-82. Despite the challenges, Wardha remained focused on her studies. After completing Class 10, she pursued commerce and later enrolled at Delhi University for her undergraduate studies.

Driven by a desire to contribute to her family’s financial stability, Wardha initially pursued a corporate job. However, her aspirations for civil service prompted her to leave the job and dedicate herself to exam preparation.

Her journey wasn’t without setbacks. In her first attempt in 2022, she couldn’t clear the preliminary stage. Undeterred, Wardha analysed her shortcomings and embarked on a more focused preparation strategy. Leveraging social media, she sought guidance from the notes of previous successful candidates. Wardha’s disciplined study routine, consisting of 7–8 hours daily, coupled with her adeptness at utilising social media for clarifying questions and staying updated on current affairs, contributed to her success.

The announcement of the UPSC CSE 2023 results brought immense joy to Wardha’s family and the community. As news of her achievement spread, there was a palpable sense of pride and celebration in their household. Wardha’s success is not only a personal triumph but also a historic moment for her family, as she becomes the first girl to clear the UPSC examination.
