NFC Championship: 2 early bets for 49ers vs. Lions
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (23) celebrates a touchdown.
The NFC Championship is officially set, as the San Francisco 49ers will host the Detroit Lions next Sunday with a Super Bowl berth on the line. Let’s take a quick look at the opening spread and total and target two early bets for 49ers-Lions.
San Francisco 49ers -6.5 (-115 DraftKings)
The 49ers didn’t look good in their divisional-round matchup against the Green Bay Packers, but the pouring rain didn’t help matters. It was clear Brock Purdy was struggling to grip the ball and throw accurate passes down the field, yet he turned it on when it mattered most and still engineered a game-winning drive.
The early forecast for next Sunday looks warm and clear, so the 49ers should have no issues moving the ball and scoring against a Lions defense that ranks 30th in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game. This spread is depressed because of how San Francisco looked on Saturday. We expect it to close at -7 or higher, especially if Deebo Samuel plays.
Over 50.5 (-110 FanDuel)
This is another line that should increase as the week goes on. The Lions defense is great against the run and abysmal against the pass, but their rushing defense will be neutralized by Christian McCaffrey and this efficient running game led by Kyle Shanahan. San Fran should have no problem getting to at least 28 points in this matchup.
As for the Lions, they’ve scored at least 24 points in five of their last six games. This spread is already moving up, so get it now while you can.
