The highly anticipated sci-fi film ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, starring Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, has officially been postponed.

Amidst chatter about the makers planning on delaying the film’s release, it has now been confirmed that the big-budget movie will hit the big screens worldwide on May 9.

The decision to postpone the release comes after reports stated that the makers wanted a solo, undisputed run at the box office. Keeping in mind that Prabhas released his film ‘Salaar’ only on December 22, the ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ team, considered changing the January release to allow the actor’s previous release to complete its box office run.

This move has also been welcomed by fans of Deepika Padukone, who will release her action film ‘Fighter’ on January 25. Had ‘Kalki’ stuck to its Jan release, it would have clashed with the actress’ box office business.

The new release date was announced at a special event that saw the characters Raiders from the film holding out posters of the new May release.

The announcement of the new release date has only heightened the anticipation with fans now eagerly counting down the days to witness the first-of-its-kind sci-fi film play out on the big screen.

In another first, the film had a grand launch at ComicCon last year. The makers dropped the first teaser that gave a glimpse of all the action and adventure set to unfold in this film set in a dystopian future.

‘Kalki 2898 AD’ also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan in lead roles.
