ipl 2024: never seen a commentator bat so well: kevin pietersen hails dinesh karthik for magnificent 83 vs sunrisers hyderabad
Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has said he has never seen a commentator bat so well, praising Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Dinesh Karthik for his brilliant 83 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Amidst the high-octane clash in IPL 2024, Karthik unleashed a batting masterclass, scoring an explosive 83 runs off just 35 deliveries.
One of the most memorable moments of Karthik’s innings was his record-breaking 108m six, the longest in IPL 2024, which not just electrified the atmosphere at the Chinnaswamy Stadium but also underscored his dominance in T20s.
Skipper Faf du Plessis (62, 28b, 7×4, 4×6) and Karthik (83, 35b, 5×4, 7×6) played fine hands but on the night they ended as mere footnotes.

“Never seen a commentator bat so well,” Pietersen said while commentating during Monday’s game.
Karthik and Mahipal Lomror (19), who together punished Markande for 25 runs in his last over, milked 59 runs off 29 deliveries for the sixth wicket, and the former made 63 for the seventh wicket with Anuj Rawat as Bangalore moved along.
Karthik was involved in commentary during India’s five match Test series against England but didn’t feature in the final Test as he went to play in Mumbai’s DY Patil T20 Cup, ahead of the IPL. He showed good touch there and carried on the form into the IPL.

Karthik has scored 226 runs in six matches till now, at a stunning average of 75.33, higher than Virat Kohli’s 72.2. He has contributed with quick cameos throughout the tournament and has suddenly been making a case for himself as the backup wicketkeeper-batter to Rishabh Pant at the T20 World Cup.
Against the Punjab Kings, the only match Bangalore have won till now, Kohli’s 49-ball 77 and Karthik’s 10-ball 28 drove the team to the much-needed win. But since then, even after consistent contributions from the duo, Bangalore haven’t been able to return to winning ways.
