Missile attack on Ukraine: Over 30 states request emergency UN Security Council meeting

Ukraine, along with 30 other UN member states, has submitted a request to the Ecuadorian presidency for the convening of an emergency session of the UN Security Council, according to Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba.

The main topic of discussion is the massive Russian missile and drone strikes.

“Ukraine, together with thirty UN member states, appealed to the Ecuadorian Presidency with a request to convene an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council regarding the missile and drone attack by Russia, which resulted in a large number of civilian casualties and the destruction of civilian infrastructure,” noted the minister.

Russian strike

As a reminder, on December 29, Russian occupiers carried out the most extensive strike on Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion.

In Ukrainian airspace, 158 aerial targets, including drones and missiles, were identified.

Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted 114 targets, including 27 combat UAVs Shahed and 87 cruise missiles X-101/X-555/X-55.

As a result of the attacks in several regions, there are casualties and injuries among civilians. In Kyiv, specifically on December 29, nine people lost their lives due to the strikes.
