Male presenter sparks fierce debate after revealing he 'sits down to pee' because 'it doesn't always go straight' which makes cleanup 'long' - but people call it 'insanity'

A male presenter has sparked a fierce debate online after revealing he 'sits down' on a toilet seat to pee.

Fred Santana, who presents popular 90s Baby Show podcast, shocked viewers with his candid take on bathroom etiquette while chatting with hosts of fellow British pod Your Aunties Could Never.

In a clip on Instagram titled 'Toilet Etiquette' he frankly mentioned having to 'clean up' after himself and the stresses of urinating with an erection as the determining factors behind his preference.

Viewers were left divided over his comments; as while some men admitted to also 'sitting down to pee' others branded it 'insanity'.

Speaking on the podcast, Fred said: 'I sit down to pee [because] clean up is long. I'm telling you - you think it's easy but it's not easy... p***ing with a boner is the hardest thing'.

Looking bewildered, Fred replied: 'What do you want me to do?' before going on to explain the methodology behind his answer.

'You can't just point it [my penis] down [as] it is strong at the moment. That one especially - you have to sit down to do that okay.

'And it doesn't always go straight off a boner. Like it just goes that way for no reason... it's not going straight'.

The bizarre conversation attracted a fiery debate, of which some people shared examples of why they too chose to sit down to pee.

One person wrote: 'Yes, I sit down at night and when I have nice clothes on. Pee droplets on my pants will ruin my whole day. There is nothing worse than hearing your wife yell at you because you missed the toilet'.

Also adopting this approach, another said: 'I can’t lie I’m backing @fredsantana on this one. P***ing sitting down is a game changer, less hassle and it’s cleaner.

One person joked: 'Every man is different. Peeing sitting down isn't a big deal though. I do that only if I'm doing a number two and a number one decides to join the party'.

Revealing another reason why squatting was optimal, someone else said: 'Standing up is messy and makes lot of sound'.

'I thought I was the only person who does this…standing is long most times' agreed another.

However some users seemed taken aback by Fred's stance, and declared that they would never do the same.

'Sitting down to pee with a rock on is insanity' quipped one.

'Sit and piss? Bro no way' exclaimed another.

However according to one urologist, there is only one correct way for men to pee.

A top urologist has claimed men should always sit down to pee because it's better for their health.

Revealed: Where in the world men are most likely to SIT DOWN to wee - and it's Germany that tops the ranking (and they even have a name for those with this habit... 'sitzpinkler')

Consultant urological surgeon Dr Gerald Collins dropped the bombshell last week, following a survey on how men choose to urinate.

A YouGov poll, which quizzed more than 7,000 men from 13 countries, found 40 per cent of German men always sit down to pee.

This compares to just 9 per cent of Brits and 10 per cent of Americans.

Mr Collins, who works at Alexandra Hospital, a private hospital in Cheshire, claimed the Germans have got it right.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Mr Collins said he believes that how men urinate has likely evolved as a matter of convenience and circumstance.

'The bottom line is, if you're on a golf course, and you need to nip behind a tree, you can get away with doing that,' he said.

'Whereas if you squat and drop your pants, it could be a much more awkward scenario.'

But that doesn't mean it's the best way health-wise.

The urologist said sitting down is 'probably the most efficient' way to pee, as researchers in the Netherlands found in 2014 that a seated position makes it easier for your bladder to 'empty faster and more completely'.

The researchers, from Leiden University Medical Centre, say this is down to the pelvic and spine muscles being completely relaxed when sat down, making it easier to urinate.

However when you are a stood up, those muscles are activated and the tension can lead to not all urine leaving the bladder.

Sitting, the study says, is particularly beneficial for those with lower urinary tract issues and an enlarged prostate - both issues that can become worse with age.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) affects most men at some point in life, with 80 per cent of those in their 80s living with the condition.

BPH is where the prostate gland and surrounding tissue expands, blocking the urethra and making urination more challenging.

And if the bladder is not emptied properly, men with BPH can develop bladder stones, UTIs and kidney infections - so sitting down to pee is recommended.

In Germany, there are signs in many public bathrooms urging men to sit down when they pee - often to maintain cleanliness.

Those who choose to sit are called 'Sitzpinklers', meaning sitting widdlers.

The term is an offensive slur, directed at men deemed to be 'wimpy or effeminate'.
