Marcus Stoinis scripts history, breaks Paul Valthaty’s 13-year-old IPL record
NEW DELHI: Marcus Stoinis etched his name in IPL history with a stunning performance, crafting the highest individual score in an IPL chase. With nerves of steel and impeccable timing, Stoinis showcased his batting prowess, guiding Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to a stunning six-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their own den.
With this knock, Stoinis eclipsed Punjab Kings, formerly Kings XI Punjab, batter Paul Valthaty’s memorable innings of 120* in 2011, also against CSK, to script history. Stoinis remained unbeaten on 124 which came in 63 balls with the help of 13 fours and six massive sixes.
Stoinis smashed an outstanding 56-ball century to trump skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad’s effort as LSG beat CSK by six wickets in Chennai. Chasing 211, LSG completed a record run chase at the Chepauk in 19.3 overs.

It was a second win for LSG over CSK in just 5 days. The win was also Lucknow’s first ever at the Chepauk.
Stoinis anchored crucial partnerships throughout his historic innings, notably forming a pivotal 70-run stand with Nicholas Pooran off just 34 balls. This partnership injected momentum into the chase, laying a solid foundation for the team’s pursuit of victory.
Stoinis then showcased his composure and maturity by forging an unbeaten 55-run partnership with Deepak Hooda in a mere 19 balls, steering his team towards the target with unwavering determination.
