Looking for a job? Elon Musk is hiring engineers, designers and more at xAI
Interest in AI (artificial intelligence) reached its peak when ChatGPT was unveiled to the public. OpenAI, the company behind the viral AI chatbot, gained popularity soon after ChatGPT’s launch and its CEO, Sam Altman, became a household name of sorts. One person who had been actively speaking out against OpenAI and ChatGPT was Elon Musk. The X chief, on more than one occasions, said that ChatGPT was “too woke” and criticised OpenAI for becoming a for-profit company. In December last year, Musk introduced his own AI chatbot, GrokAI to the world. The chatbot can be accessed by X Premium and Premium+ users and was said to have a “sense of humour” at the time of its launch.
The company behind GrokAI, xAI, is now hiring for multiple roles and Musk is inviting prospective candidates to join the venture. From designers and engineers to AI tutors and data professionals, there are a number of openings in the xAI team.Â
“We’re hiring designers, engineers, product, data, infra, and ai tutors – join us! https://x.ai/careers,” the company’s recent post said. Re-sharing the post, Musk wrote, “Join @xAI!”
Musk’s tweet has more than 14 million views and people are talking about xAI in the comments section.Â
Meanwhile, the xAI team, on its careers page, says that they are on a mission to “build AI systems that can help humanity understand the world better.” They add, “We are driven by ambitious goals, fast execution, and a strong sense of urgency. Join us if you want to shape the next generation of AI models and products.” The company also adds that even though they work from offices usually, they are willing to offer remote work opportunities for “exceptional candidates.”
To recall, Grok AI was introduced as an AI assistant that will answer questions with “wit and also has a rebellious streak.” The XAI team wrote in a tweet that “those who lack a sense of humour shouldn’t use GrokAI.”
The team’s post, at the time of the chatbot’s launch, had read, “Grok is an AI modelled after the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, so intended to answer almost anything and, far harder, even suggest what questions to ask. Grok is designed to answer questions with a bit of wit and has a rebellious streak, so please don’t use it if you hate humour.”
More recently, xAI had launched its first multimodal model called Grok-1.5. The multimodal model promises not to be just good with text, but also with visuals like documents, diagrams, and photos.
Introducing the AI tool, xAI said in a blog post, “Introducing Grok-1.5V, our first-generation multimodal model. In addition to its strong text capabilities, Grok can now process a wide variety of visual information, including documents, diagrams, charts, screenshots, and photographs. Grok-1.5V will be available soon to our early testers and existing Grok users.”
