Israel-Iran war: Send rockets to stars, rather than at each other, says Elon Musk
NEW DELHI: Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, made a subtle comment on Friday in response to news of Israeli strikes on the Iranian city of Isfehan in Central Iran. He suggested that rockets be fired toward the stars rather than at one another.
“We should send rockets not at each other, but rather to the stars,” Musk said in his social media post. He also suggested, “Maybe world leaders should just email memes at each other and let the public vote on who wins,” Musk said, adding “I prefer that over war,” adding, “I prefer that over war.”
Israel launched missile attacks against Tehran in the early hours of Friday morning (local time). The official, however, could not verify if sites in Syria and Iraq were also targeted.
The report came shortly after local sources reported explosions in the Isfahan region of Central Iran.
Early Friday morning, state media reported that Iran’s air defense systems were activated in several locations after multiple explosions were heard near the airport and an army base in the Iranian city of Isfahan.
According to Israeli military authorities, the missile launches follow Iran’s offensive on targets around Israel last Saturday, during which the nation fired a barrage of over 300 unmanned drones and missiles.
This is not the first time Musk has openly shared his views on the ongoing war and the tense situation in the Middle East. Previously, he faced criticism for endorsing a virulently antisemitic trope on X and the platform’s failure to address rampant disinformation and hate speech amid the ongoing war.
The inability to combat antisemitism on the app and comments perceived as anti-Semitic, shared by Musk himself, led to several advertisers, including Apple and Disney, cutting off their spending on the microblogging site.
However, Musk later visited Israel, where he met with the country’s top leaders, including President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He also announced that X would donate all revenue from advertising and subscriptions “associated with the war in Gaza” to hospitals in Israel and the Red Cross/Crescent in Gaza.
