Ireland weather: 'Badly needed' temperatures of up to 20C expected over week

The week ahead will see some “badly needed improvement” in the weather as showers clear away and temperatures shoot up to a possible 20C.

While the bank holiday weekend wasn’t the scorcher everybody had hoped for, with some parts of the country seeing drizzle while others saw sunny spells, all in all, it was a bright long weekend with some prolonged sunny spells.

The long weekend isn’t over yet, with Monday promising to bring some more sunny spells, although there will be the odd shower over the day.

In the coming days, things are set to get even better, with Alan O’Reilly from the ever-reliable Carlow Weather sharing some weather charts showing rain clearing off as temperatures rise.

He wrote: “Badly needed improvement coming for the week ahead, cloudy and some showers Monday but very little rain after that for week and getting warmer with 20C possible by day but cool nights.”

Overall, Monday will still see a few showers as well as some clouds, but there will be sunny spells, just not as many as Sunday, the weather expert wrote in a later post.

He wrote, alongside some weather charts: “Monday will see some more cloud and odd shower but some sunny spells also just not as many as today.”

Meanwhile, Met Éireann has forecast a largely dry bank holiday Monday with sunny spells developing over the day but warned of a few well-scattered showers throughout the last day of the long weekend.

Thankfully, the Met Éireann has also forecast a more settled week ahead as high pressure builds, bringing in warmer temperatures. Here is Met Éireann’s forecast for the bank holiday Monday and the coming days:

Bank holiday Monday

Largely cloudy this morning with scattered showers along with some patches of mist and fog for a time.

Through the day, better sunny spells will develop with showers becoming isolated. Highest temperatures of 13C to 18C, cooler though in some northern and northwestern parts, with light to moderate northerly winds.

Dry tonight with long clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 2C to 7C in mostly light northerly breezes.

Tuesday

A mostly dry day tomorrow with sunny spells. A few isolated showers are possible, mainly in the east. Highest temperatures of 15C to 20C generally, mildest in Leinster, in light variable breezes. Slightly cooler though northern and Atlantic fringes.

Tuesday night will be dry and mostly clear to start the night before cloud builds from the west with the odd spot of light rain or drizzle possible near coasts by morning. Lowest temperatures of 5C to 10C, coolest over Ulster. Light southerly or variable breezes will allow some mist and fog to develop.
