IPL 2024: Shah Rukh Khan graceful after KKR defeat, congratulates RR hero Jos Buttler
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan won hearts on Tuesday at Eden Gardens in Kolkata with his grace after Kolkata slipped to an agonising loss in a nail-biting finish against Rajasthan in an IPL 2024 match. The KKR co-owner walked down to the middle at the iconic venue and congratulated RR’s hero Jos Buttler with a warm embrace after the last-ball thriller in a top-of-the-table contest in Kolkata.Â
Shah Rukh Khan was seen embracing Jos Buttler and patting the England captain on his back for the latter’s scintillating knock of 107 off just 60 balls as he remained unbeaten and scripted the joint-most successful chase in the history of the IPL. Buttler hit 6 sixes and 9 boundaries as his sensational knock trumped Sunil Narine’s maiden IPL hundred, helping RR successfully chase 224 at Eden Gardens.Â
It must have been a special moment for Jos Buttler, given that the England cricketer has often expressed his admiration for Shah Rukh Khan, who was happy to walk down to the field and laud the players for producing a spectacular IPL 2024 contest.Â

Shah Rukh Khan, who has been regularly attending KKR’s home and away matches in IPL 2024, was on the edge of the seat a the stands at Eden Gardens when the IPL 2024 contest headed to a thrilling finish. When big-hitter Rovman Powell got out in the 17th over bowled by Sunil Narine ,RR slipped to 178 for 7 and looked like they would end up losing the contest. RR needed 46 runs in their last 3 overs with Jos Buttler and the lower-order batters in the shed.Â
However, Jos Buttler did not give up hope as he tore into the KKR bowlers, especially Mitchell Starcas the Australian gave way 18 runs in his final over, finishing with figures of 0 for 50. Harshit Rana, who was excellent in his first two spells, leaked 19 in the 19th over as Jos Buttler brought down the equation to 9 off the last over.Â
However, Jos Buttler, who was battling cramps on a humid evening, struggled to get a big hit out after smashing the first ball of the last over bowled by Varun Chakravarthy for a six. Buttler then held his calm and hit a boundary off the last ball to take RR past the finish line and complete one of his greatest knocks in the IPL.Â
Sunil Narine, earlier in the day, just became the third KKR batter after Venkatesh Iyer (2022) and Brendon McCullum (2008) to hit a hundred for the team in the IPL. Narine smashed a hundred in just 49 balls as he repaid the faith shown in by KKR’s mentor Gautam Gambhir, who pushed him back to the opening slot after close a decade’s break from that batting slot for the West Indies superstar.Â
With the nail-biting win on Tuesday, the Royals moved to the top of the IPL 2024 points table while KKR retained their second spot.Â
