IPL 2024: Hardik Pandya breaks silence on Mumbai Indians captaincy row
Ever since Hardik Pandya made his return to Mumbai Indians as skipper replacing Team India captain Rohit Sharma in IPL 2024, social media was busy with speculations about this transition.
After being traded by Mumbai Indians from Gujarat Titans, Hardik Pandya was being trolled heavily on the social media for replacing Rohit Sharma as MI skipper. Pandya for the first time reacted on this captaincy row and said that Rohit Sharma will always have hands on his shoulders while he takes up this responsibility.
Pandya was asked if the social media reactions will affect his performance as a skipper to which he replied that he never focusses on anything that can’t be controlled by him.
Expressing his excitement to be back with the Mumbai Indians ‘Paltan’, Pandya said that he respects the sentiments of the fans but at the same time he would try to carry forward the legacy of Rohit Sharma who guided the MI to 5 title wins in the IPL T20 league.
Asked if Pandya had any discussions with Rohit over the upcoming IPL 2024 session, he replied that since Rohit was travelling and playing international matches he could not get a chance to discuss team plans, but as soon as he joins the squad, he will surely have a discussion with Rohit over MI plans.
With head coach Mark Boucher seated by his side, Pandya said that he will bowl in the upcoming season of IPL 2024. After a prolonged recovery from injured ankle there was a doubt if Pandya would be able to ball in the series.
Expressing satisfaction with his fitness, Pandya said that he is absolutely fine and ready to hit the field for the upcoming IPL 2024 season.
Mumbai Indians will have their first match against Gujarat Titans on March 24 at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
