iPhone SE 4: Bigger screen to better camera, everything we know about Apple’s next most affordable phone
The iPhone 16 Pro Max is the best and most powerful device right now, but if you are looking for a compact iPhone, the upcoming iPhone SE might be your only choice as Apple officially discontinued the ‘mini’ series last year.
For those wondering, interest in Apple’s ‘mini’ series had already plummeted with the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini being the least sold phones by the company. However, the Cupertino-based tech giant already seems to be working on the iPhone SE 4, which will reportedly bring in several changes From the modern buttonless iPhone design to a bigger screen, here’s everything we know so far about the next-gen iPhone SE.
New design and bigger display
The iPhone SE 4 is said to feature a new and bigger 6.1-inch display instead of the iPhone SE 2022’s handy 4.7-inch screen (review). This might mean that Apple is done with phones less than 5 inches in size. According to recently leaked renders by 91mobiles, Apple might also ditch the touch ID button in favour of Face ID authentication. The CAD renders hint that the upcoming budget iPhone will also get a notch similar to the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series.
Some dummy images of the iPhone SE 4 by the known tipster Majin Bu surfaced earlier this month on X (formerly Twitter) also hinting that the upcoming budget iPhone will support wireless charging via MagSafe and have a 6.1-inch OLED screen with FullHD resolution. As opposed to the iPhone 8 with large top and bottom bezels, a report by MacRumors suggests that the iPhone SE 4, codenamed Ghost, would look like the base model iPhone 14, using a modified version of its chassis instead of the more curvy edges of the iPhone 15 series.
Upgraded camera and processor
The current-gen iPhone SE is powered by Apple’s in-house developed Bionic A15 chipset, which made its debut with the iPhone 13 series. However, the iPhone SE 4 is said to feature the much faster A16 Bionic, which powers the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 non-pro models.
Depending on if you want to use the iPhone SE 4 to click photos, there’s some good news, and then there’s some bad news. While the upcoming phone is said to feature a singular camera similar to its predecessor, rumour has it Apple might opt for a 48MP camera sensor, which will be a much-needed upgrade from the current iPhone SE 2022’s 12MP shooter. While Majin Bu had earlier suggested that the upcoming will phone would also house a 12MP ultrawide shooter, screenshots of recent cases by the tipster that were reportedly designed for the iPhone SE 4 hint that the phone will have a single 48MP camera.
iPhone SE 4: Price and launch date
The iPhone SE 4 is reportedly still in the early stages of development and if numerous reports from known publications and tipsters are to be believed, Apple will launch the phone sometime next year. As for the price, we might see a significant price hike since Apple will reportedly use its newest chipset and bring a much more modern design and Face ID support.
