The next big limited overs ICC event after the T20 World Cup 2024 gets over will be the ICC Champions Trophy that is scheduled to be held in Pakistan in 2025. This will be the first time that a major ICC event will be held in Pakistan since the 1996 ODI World Cup. On the other hand, India have not travelled to Pakistan since 2006, and with the strained political relations between the two countries, matches between the two nations have now only been limited to ICC events. Now it looks like the Men in Blue might not travel to India once again, after the whole Asia Cup fiasco that unfolded in 2023.
According to a report by news agency IANS, Team India might not travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions trophy in 2025. A source close to the proceedings told the publication that there might be a change in venue for the tournament, and it might also be held in the hybrid model like the Asia Cup 2023.
“Forget bilateral series…Team India may not even travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. There might be a change of venue, s hybrid model is also possible,” the source told IANS.
Th source said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India would need permission from the Government of India to travel to Pakistan, and relations between the two countries are not that good.
“The Indian board would need permission from the government for travel, currently our relations with Pakistan are not that good either,” he said.
The source also said that it will be a tough call for India to miss an ICC evet, but nothing would be done without the order or green signal of the government. However, he reiterated the fact that there will be no India vs Pakistan bilateral series in near future.
“Champions Trophy is an ICC event, so it would be a tough call for India but nothing without the government’s order/green signal. Bilateral series, I don’t see in the near future, that’s next to impossible.”
India and Pakistan last played a bilateral series back in 2013 when the Men in Green toured India for two T20Is and three ODIs.
Rohit Sharma recently on the Club Prairie Fire Podcast said that he would love to play an India vs Pakistan Test match.
“I totally believe that (India Vs Pakistan is good for Test cricket)! They are a good team,” he said
