Former Pakistani all-rounder Imad Wasim was on fire for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 final played on Monday (March 18) against Multan Sultans at the National Stadium in Karachi. The 35-year-old cricketer, who announced his retirement from international cricket last year, picked up five wickets for 23 in his quota of four overs to help the Shadab Khan-led side restrict Mohammad Rizwan & Co. to 159 for nine in 20 overs after they opted to bat first.

Wasim’s spell of 4-0-23-5 is the best bowling performance in the history of nine PSL finals played till date, and he is the first and only bowler to take a five-wicket haul in the PSL title decider.

After taking five wickets in the final of PSL 2024, Wasim left the field and was caught smoking in the dressing room. Several videos of the star cricketer, who admitted that he still has 4-5 years of cricket left in him, of smoking went viral on the internet.

For his super show with the ball, Wasim won the Player of the Match award in the final. It was his third straight POTM award in PSL 2024. During the two eliminator matches as well, Wasim won the top prize.

Apart from his bowling, Wasim also made a vital contribution with the bat in the thrilling final, which United won by two wickets on the last ball of the match. After coming out to bat at No. 6, the left-handed batter remained unbeaten on 19 runs from 17 balls. He added 30 runs for the 8th wicket with Naseem Shah to turn the game in Islamabad’s favour.

Shadab won the Player of the Series award

For his superb all-round show in the PSL 2024, Islamabad United skipper Shadab Khan won the Player of the Series award. In 12 matches, the 25-year-old cricketer scored 305 runs and picked up 14 wickets.

Speaking during the post-match presentation ceremony after his side won the PSL title for the record-extending third time, Shadab said, “I felt that the more time I had, I could utilise it better with bat. At numbers 6–7, I don’t have the power game. I have tried to fix my technical issues as a bowler. That’s a long process, and the improvements will come. I was captain for five years, and we didn’t reach the final, but they backed me. There are a lot of things I feel make this trophy very important for us.”
