Former UK Prime Ministers Boris Johnson and David Cameron have contrasting views on Donald Trump. While the former admitted that the Republican candidate’s return to the White House could be ‘just what the world needs’, the latter had described him as ‘xenophobic and misogynistic’. Trump is leading the GOP primary charts, according to several polls. He heads to North Hampshire for the 2024 primaries after winning the Iowa caucus last week.
Boris Johnson, in his column on The Daily Mail, backed Trump. He wrote that if the former President backs Ukraine in its war against Russia, his renewed leadership “can be a big win for the world”.
“I simply cannot believe that Trump will ditch the Ukrainians; on the contrary, having worked out, as he surely has, that there is no deal to be done with Putin, I reckon there is a good chance that he will double down and finish what he started – by giving them what they need to win. If that is the case, then there is every chance, under Trump, that the west will be stronger, and the world more stable,” Johnson, who was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party from 2019 to 2022, wrote.

Trump, however, has not vocally spoken about US support for Kyiv if re-elected. He has time and again boasted about his relationship with Russian president Vladimir Putin.
David Cameron, UK PM from 2010 to 2016 and is the current Foreign Secretary, had in 2019 said that Trump won the GOP nomination because of his ‘protectionist, xenophobic, misogynistic interventions’. He had added that ‘the rise of the far-left and hard-right parties in Europe [had] shown us that anti-establishment, divisive politics was the new normal’.
Cameron has not spoken about Trump’s 2024 campaign yet.
