Rohit Sharma not thinking about retirement: Really want to win World Cup with India
India captain Rohit Sharma has stated that he isn’t thinking about retirement at the moment and is keen on winning a World Cup with the side. Rohit also suggested that he is going to continue playing for a few more years while talking to Ed Sheeran and Gaurav Kapur on special edition of Breakfast with Champions on April 12.Â
Rohit had come close to winning the World Cup last year when he guided India to the final, without tasting any defeat during the league stage. The India skipper’s batting at the top helped India have a great start in the first powerplay overs and he ended up scoring 597 runs. However, India would lose the final to Australia in Ahmedabad. Answering a question from Sheeran about retirement, Rohit said that he is still playing well at the moment and wants to win a world title with India.Â
Rohit also said he wants India to make it to the WTC final in 2025 in England.
“I haven’t really thought about retirement. But, I don’t know where life takes you. I am still playing well at this point in time – so I am thinking I am going to continue for a few more years and then, I don’t know. I really want to win the World Cup and there is a WTC final in 2025, hopefully India makes it,” said Rohit.Â
Don’t think India played bad cricket in World Cup 2023 final: Rohit Sharma
The India skipper also opened up on the loss in the World Cup final last year and said he didn’t feel anything could stop India at the moment. He said that India had a bad day that time and Australia played slightly better than them.Â
However, the India skipper felt that his side didn’t play bad cricket in the final.Â
“50-over World Cup for me is the actual world cup. We’ve grown up watching that World Cup. More importantly, it was happening in India in front of our home crowd. We played so well up until that final. When we won the semi-finals, I thought, now we’re just a step away. We’re doing all the things right.”Â
“What’s the one thing that can make us lose the World Cup? Not a single thing came to my mind. Because I thought we ticked all the boxes, we were playing good cricket. Confidence was there.”Â
“We were all supposed to have one bad day and that I guess that was our bad day. Don’t think we played bad cricket in that final, certain things didn’t go our way. But Australia were slightly better than us,” said Rohit.Â
Rohit will have a chance to win the T20 World Cup in June as he will be leading the Indian team, as confirmed by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.Â
