Islamabad: As counting of votes for Pakistan general elections gains pace, former Pak Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has declared “victory” in an address to party cadre on Friday in Lahore. The Pakistan Muslim League (N) supremo said that the party respects the mandate of the people and announced that PML-N has emerged as the “largest party”.
“We congratulate you all because, with God’s blessings, Pakistan Muslim League (N) has emerged as the largest party…We respect the mandate given to every party…We invite them to sit with us to take the injured Pakistan out of crisis,” he said.
As per the latest numbers, Of the 213 seats on which the results have been declared, the Independent Candidates backed by jailed former PM IMran Khan’s PTI are leading with 88 seats. Sharif’s PML-N won 61 seats, PPP bagged 49 seats, MQM won 8 seats while IPP and JUI-F got two each. One seat each has been won by PKMAP and PMLQ.
Speaking on the occasion, Sharif said that all institutions should together play positive role in bringing Pakistan out of this crisis.
He said that Shehbaz Sharif will be speaking to PPP, MQM, JUI for required number to form the government hinting at a possible coalition with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and others. Notably, both Nawaz Sharif and Bilawal Bhutto have lost the general elections from their respective seats.
